Lahaina Arts Association’s Hawaiian Youth Mentoring Program provides one-on-one mentorships between professional artists and art students. Artist mentors are recruited, screened and matched with students to provide art skills, guidance, support, and positive role modeling. The program is continuing to expand thanks to several Lahaina Arts Society artists giving their time to be mentors to local high school students who want to pursue art as a career. Additionally, LAA has partnered with local high schools so that students are able to get credit for their participation through the school's internship program. A minimum of forty hours of mentor time is required and LAA has committed to providing $100 for art supplies for each student.
Any artist, student or school interested in participating in this program can contact info@lahaina-arts.org or 808-661-0111for more information.
